Staring Time in the Face

I could buy a thousand clocks
each with a distinctive frame
a harmony of ticking hands
whose face never stays the same

Clock hands are idly moving
bringing life forward
time signalling every act or step
whether to start or end

Hands beckoning, hour after hour
time is told by an unsympathetic face
unchanged, undistorted, and final
moments are created, sometimes erased

We measure time in seconds
minutes, hours, or days
the NOW constantly leaves
the PAST always stays

We 'make time' for a myriad actions
if noble purposes necessitate
and if ONLY time would stand still
perhaps, sad souls can mend their fate
